If you want to work in the 2D or stop- motion animation industry, and have a passion for storytelling through animation, this course is for you. You’ll gain plenty of hands-on experience of traditional and digital animation techniques to complement your strong drawing skills and imagination. You’ll be encouraged to find ways to apply these skills throughout the entire animation process.
There is a strong emphasis on teamwork and professional practice on this animation course, which will give you a realistic understanding of how the industry works and will enhance your employment prospects. BA (Hons) Computer Animation
The industry-facing computer-generated content of this Computer Animation degree is underpinned by solid artistic and creative practices, enabling you to produce the best results possible. Based at the Cardiff campus, you’ll complete your work using industry- standard software across a range of projects, many of them designed to help you identify what you are good at, and to specialise in it. During major projects, you’ll work with others in a collaborative manner in a work-simulation environment that mirrors industry studio practice. You’ll study the history of animation, as well as marketing, business skills and entrepreneurship, all of which can enhance your employability when you graduate.

Graduates from the Computer Animation course have been employed at prestigious studios throughout the world including Sony Pictures Imageworks and Dreamworks Animation, worked on exciting productions like Star Wars (Solo & The Last Jedi), Ready Player One, Avengers (Infinity War and Age of Ultron), The Jungle Book, Fantastic Beasts and the Harry Potter films, Guardians of the Galaxy and can be found at cutting-edge Computer Games Studios such as Rockstar North, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (Playstation) and EA Games (UK and USA).
You’ll begin with an introduction to 3D computer animation and 3D digital art principles, then progress to advanced 3D CG animation and 3D digital art for Games, VFX, Short Films and Commercials. During years two and three you’ll have the opportunity to specialise in areas such as character/creature animation, animated short film-making, 3D CG Art, CG for Games/VFX and much more.
